Modern kayak centre at Špica in Celje extends the city's offer in terms of sports, tourism, hiking, and catering. This is the home of the NIVO Celje kayak and canoe club which has been a hub for whitewater kayak and canoe enthusiasts for seven decades. Throughout its history, the club took pride in a number of excellent athletes among its members, including the Cankar sisters, Matjaž Murgelj, Dušan Konda, Pavel Kuralt etc. Recently, their best individual is Simon Brus, winner of gold at the first Youth Olympic Games in Singapore in 2010, European Championships gold medals, two National Championship titles, and many other medals. He is followed by new generations of young kayakers already raking in medals at European and World youth championships.

The kayak and canoe centre is located along the popular hiking and jogging trail on the Savinja riverbank. There is also an open-air gym next to the main building. The rather easy kayak course on the Savinja River is suitable for amateurs and especially youngster training, and it is therefore often used by other Slovenian clubs. The course is also a popular venue for competitions of the Slovenian Kayak Association. Club member benefits include rental of basic equipment.

During the summer, the stage next to the kayak centre hosts concerts and other entertaining events, including the traditional May 1st bonfire.

The club café and pizzeria Špica offers a place to rest during the walk or jog along the Savinja river. A small conference room for up to 50 people is available for lectures, meetings, and presentations.
