Women's basketball has been played in Celje since 1948. In the 1999/2000 season, women's basketball club Celje was the Slovenian national champion for the first time; in the 2001/2002 season, they won the international Adriatic league. The club from Celje is among the founding organizations of the league.

In the last ten years, the Celje women's basketball club has been the driving force behind the development of women's basketball in Slovenia and one of the most appreciated women's basketball organizations in former Yugoslavia. Its highly successful work with young players also makes it increasingly reputable on the European scale.

In the last decade, Celje's women basketball is at the forefront in Slovenia. In the 20 years of the club's independent existence, the team has won 10 Slovenian Championships and 9 Slovenian Cups, and one international Adriatic League title. In 2009, the Municipality of Celje presented the bronze coat of arms to the club; in 2014, they were voted the best women's sports team of the Celje Municipality.
