Anski vrh is the highest among the hills rolling along the southern border of the town.
The meadow on the top affords a stunning view of the Savinjska Valley and the surrounding hills like Mrzlica, Gozdnik, and Menina planina. In clear weather, one can see as far as the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, Uršlja gora and Peca.
A number of hiking trails, combining for 14 kilometres, have been maintained in the Anski vrh area since 2000. The trails are marked with signposts and information boards. Benches, fences, footbridges and stairs make the suitable for hikers of all ages. A recent survey found that Anski vrh is indeed a very popular destination as it is visited by as many as 45,000 hikers every year.
Forest trails to Anski vrh
From the municipal park (40 min, 2 km)
The most popular trail to Anski vrh starts in the municipal park and leads via the winding cardio trail (Srčna pot) to a glade with wonderful view of the town. Before the junction with Maistrova cesta, the trail takes a right turn, taking the hikers through the so-called natural reserve in which the development of the forest is left entirely to the forces of nature. The mighty beech forest looks like a primeval forest there! It then leads over the bridge across the Karlov jarek (Karl's ditch) and gradually ascends to Anski vrh.
From Meško spring (35 min, 1.6 km)
The start of the second trail to Anski vrh is the Meško spring on Partizanska cesta near the Lisce bridge across the Savinja River. The path leads through the old and diverse forest with both deciduous and coniferous trees. After good fifteen minutes of walk, it merges with the trail leading from the park. Before the junction with the signposts, there is the tallest tree in the urban forest – a mighty beech with a wide canopy, standing over 40 metres tall. It is protected as a natural monument. From Anski vrh, you can take the road back to the town, or descend some 300 metres along the same trail to the point where another forest trail forks to the left, taking you past the Lun spring and Hladin pond back to Lisce and the Savinja River bridge.
